"Blogging Is The Devil" Lesson Learned

Recently a friend I know said to me, "Blogging is the Devil!" I was a bit stunned with her statement but after a lengthy conversation she further explained that visiting blogs always makes her feel very inadequate and unworthy. That it seems if you don't have some incredible house or incredible DIY project or incredible photography or been on an incredible trip to post about, why bother? Basically her take was the fairytale world of bloggers was filled with narcissistic personalities that wouldn't know the real world if it bit them in the ass. Ouch right? I tried to justify to her that my reasons of blogging were to connect, inspire, market the business and mentor.  And how I've always been grateful for the friendships and opportunities that have come my way because of blogging. But wait, did her view of blog land have any merit? Did my own blogs fall into that same fairytale world she described? Probably to some extent, but that's because I'm very conscious about putting out the best content I possibly can on my blogs. I owe that to the people who take the time to visit me on my blogs and have been supportive over the years. Also, understanding that blog readers usually are looking for two things, information and inspiration. That there is enough ugly in the World we live in and being able to escape in blog land for a bit is OK.

Why you blog and the content you offer is a decision that is ultimately yours. But as my friend reminded me of in her assessment about blog land, don't get caught up in the smoke and mirrors of blogging that you feel the need to constantly produce to obtain favor. The internet has fostered a wave of instantaneous gratification and short term memory loss. Basically any fame you receive from the internet can be very fleeting so remembering that and taking things in prospective when you post should be a lesson for all of us bloggers.

"Every Wall Is A Door"

I'm a baby boomer. One of those born before the age of the internet that actually used a typewriter in High School. When "whiteout" was liquid correcting fluid and not something you painted on your nails. I will never forget the first computer my brother gave our little family and how my kids took to it with ease. I on the other hand was completely dumbfounded. Here was this technical marvel that I'm sure had great possibilities but I knew absolutely nothing about it. Never one to let anything stand in my way, I was determined to not let technology leave me behind and immediately signed up for a basic computer class. Sure I froze up my computer many times over the years but that small class changed my World.

Fast forward many years to today and my close friends now refer to me affectionately as the "Tech Tart" for all of the gadgets that I use. You see if I hadn't taken a chance on myself and signed up for that computer class, I would have missed out on many wonderful life opportunities. If you are faced with a problem that is standing in front of your DREAMS, Don't Give Up On Yourself! There is always a solution, you just need to take the time to find out what it is and act.

As Ralph Waldo Emmerson said~ "Every wall is a door." In other words, find the key to unlock the roadblock and go through the door to your DREAMS~ You are worth it!

Make It Memorable, Make It Special

Whenever anyone asks me for advice on starting a business, I always repeat the same sentence to them; "Make it memorable and always make it special." Pretty basic philosophy but if followed can make the world of difference in your business success. Why you ask? Because there is so much competition and being ahead of the average by paying attention to small details will help you stand out from the crowd. In the next few weeks I will be doing a series of postings on Ideas To Help Your Business Shine. Let me know if there is anything in particular you would like me to cover.

For now I will leave you with some photos I shot of Deb Dusenberry's Store Curious Sofa for Romantic Country Magazine back in 2010. Even though Deb closed the store in 2011, she never failed to create an amazing and engaging shopping environment~
